Diagnostic Medical Sonography Clinical Director

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Clinical Director is responsible for coordinating clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the Program Director. The Clinical Director’s responsibilities include coordination, instruction, and evaluation. The Clinical Director determines student clinical rotation schedules as well as supervising all Clinical faculty members. The Clinical Director bears the primary responsibility for acquiring clinical sites and managing student placement at clinical sites in accordance with clinical affiliation agreements. The Clinical Director also shares graduate job placement responsibilities with the Director of Career Services and as such must regularly coordinate placement efforts with the Career Services department.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Actively solicits and secures clinical affiliations with institutions that meet Platt College standards
  • Work closely with the Career Services department in the placement of DMS graduates
  • Coordinates clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the Program Director
  • Evaluates and ensures clinical education effectiveness through a schedule of regular visits to the clinical affiliate/clinical education centers
  • Teaches assigned DMS courses in a Term or Terms in accordance with established Platt College approved curriculum and course outlines
  • Determines students' clinical rotations and ensures that students can complete all assigned competencies during a clinical rotation
  • Participates in the development, implementation, assessment, and dialogue of student learning outcomes established at the program and course level
  • Maintains necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submits them according to published guidelines
  • Effectively teaches and communicates with students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Participates in professional development, advisory board meetings, student and other educational activities in accordance with college policy
  • Participates in the evaluation, revision and development of curriculum and instructional methods
  • Participates as assigned in various campus activities and duties.
  • Must demonstrate ability to teach from a standardized curriculum

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills are mandatory

Credentials and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited college
  • Possess at a minimum the ARDMS credential of RDMS with registries in Abdominal and OB/GYN
  • Additional registries in Vascular Technology (RVT) and/or Cardiac Sonography (RDCS) are preferred
  • Equivalent of four (4) years full-time (at least 35 hours per week) professional experience as a general sonographer
  • Prior experience working in an educational environment preferred
